Stone masonry General masonry

Stone is not a single material, but many. The process of dressing and shaping stone begins with careful visual assessment to understand each stone, read its character and visualise the best location for it. But this process must never compromise the original structure in a restoration project. From the initial roughing out stage right through to final finishing, the stone mason’s art is always a dialogue between man and material. The work is physical, and yet delicate, combining design, strength and subtlety. Aurige stone masons excel in this hand-to-hand challenge of taming the raw material. Traditional general masonry is also celebrated here. From floors to arches, battlements, decorative work, stairs and fireplaces, our masons and stone carvers work with ancient and contemporary materials. They also combine and recombine techniques to restore, build and enhance.
